As part of the weekly “Wednesday Social Events” organized by the Faculty of Letters at Karabük University, this week’s event brought together academics, students, and invited guests for a highly engaging and informative academic presentation.


Held on April 30, 2025, at 15:00 in the Şehit Fırat Yılmaz Çakıroğlu Conference Hall, the event featured a presentation by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatma Betül Kurnaz, a faculty member from the Department of Educational Sciences at the Faculty of Letters. Dr. Kurnaz delivered a talk titled “Common Pitfalls in Quantitative Research Design.”

In her presentation, Dr. Kurnaz addressed frequently encountered methodological issues in quantitative research that compromise scientific rigor. Topics discussed included errors in hypothesis formulation, sampling problems, issues related to the validity and reliability of measurement tools, and common mistakes in statistical analysis. She emphasized frequent structural problems seen in graduate-level research and offered practical suggestions to help participants conduct more scientifically sound and effective studies.

The presentation also featured applied examples relevant to students conducting research in the field of Educational Sciences. Ethical concerns in research processes and strategies to mitigate researcher bias were likewise brought into discussion.
During the Q&A session following the presentation, participants raised concerns based on their own research experiences, to which Dr. Kurnaz responded with insightful recommendations. The session concluded with a lively and productive exchange of ideas.


At the end of the event, Dean of the Faculty of Letters, Prof. Dr. Muhittin KAPANŞAHİN, presented Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatma Betül Kurnaz with a certificate of appreciation for her valuable contribution.
