The work titled ‘A Religious Text in Chagatai Telling Women's Stories’ has a religious content. The original manuscript does not include a title, and there is no information about the author. The work, written between 1501 and 1515, is dedicated to Ayşe Sultan Hanım, and this dedication is written at the beginning of the text. Ayşe Sultan Hanım was married to the Uzbek prince Kasım Cihangir at the end of the 15th century and was the daughter of Sultan Hüseyin Mirza, the Timurid ruler of Khorasan. The work is kept in the National Library of France (Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris), the text consists of 193 folios and has 13 lines. The work is on Islamic theology written in Eastern Turkish, without beginning and end. It consists of seventy-one chapters and a conclusion. Each chapter is devoted to an explanation of a verse from the Holy Qur'an, illustrated with one or more anecdotes about the sacred characters of Islam. In each chapter, examples from the hadiths are taken where the author deems it necessary.
The phonetic and morphological features of the work show the characteristics of Classical Chagatai Turkish. Examples of 16th-century sound and shape features are included in the work.
We congratulate Assistant Professor Dr. Nesrin GEZİCİ of the Faculty of Letters, Turkish Language and Literature Department, on her work and wish her continued success.
