In the ancient city of Pompeipolis, located in Taşköprü district of Kastamonu, excavations are being carried out under the direction of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mevlüt Eliüşük from Karabük University. Research on dietary habits and environmental data is being carried out in a 1,600 square metre villa structure from the ancient Roman period.

Seeds and insect remains are analysed in the laboratory as part of environmental archaeology studies conducted by Dr. Mustafa Nuri Tatbul from Bartın University. So far, 50 different plant species have been identified while analysing food consumption from 1,800 years ago. In addition, insect fossils and microfauna analyses aim to reconstruct the climatic and environmental conditions of the period.

The studies aim to uncover the dietary habits, agricultural economy, and environmental conditions of ancient societies through scientific methods.
