Message from our Dean
Dear Students, Faculty was established as the Faculty of Arts and Sciences under Karaelmas University with the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 12.12.2005 and numbered 2005/9744 and started its activities after being published in the official gazette dated 18.12.2005 and numbered 26027.  Later, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences was affiliated to Karabük University, which was established by being published in the official gazette dated 29 May 2007 and numbered 26536.

While faculty was serving under the roof of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, it was unanimously decided at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Faculty Board meeting dated 28 January 2010 and numbered 15-164 that it would be appropriate to be organised separately as the ‘Faculty of Letters’. It was established as an independent faculty with the Decree of the Council of Ministers dated 28.07.2010 and numbered 2010/777 published in the Official Gazette dated 22.08.2010 and numbered 27680.  Today, faculty has Archaeology, Western Languages and Literatures, Geography, Educational Sciences, Philosophy, Psychology, Art History, Sociology, History and Turkish Language and Literature Departments. Necessary studies are being carried out in order for the departments of our faculty to be accredited.  In addition to providing a quality education to our students, our academic staff, who are experts in their fields, contribute to the activities of our country in the field of social sciences by continuing their academic studies at national and international level meticulously. Faculty of Letters, which serves the goal of training researchers in different branches of social sciences, has been providing Pedagogical Formation Education since 2013 in order to provide teaching opportunities in National Education and Private Education Institutions to students in many fields of our University, especially faculty students, and to a certain extent to graduates. In addition, our academic and administrative staff are closely interested in all kinds of problems of our students and provide the necessary support. In the education infrastructure of faculty, there are lecture theatres with internet connection in all of them.

Faculty has lecture theatres, reading hall, computer laboratory, conference hall, masjid and multi-purpose halls. Course curricula are aimed at students' academic development and career planning. There are student exchange programmes such as Erasmus, Mevlana and Farabi and educational opportunities provided in line with various domestic and international transfer or bilateral agreements. Faculty aims to educate individuals who can produce knowledge of international quality, have researcher and participatory qualities, think critically, express themselves, and have self-confidence. In order to achieve the goals it has set, it updates its programmes in a competitive educational environment, taking into account the current problems and needs of our country.

I would like to thank all our academic and administrative staff who have contributed to the development of faculty to these days, and the people and institutions that support us. I wish you, our esteemed students, a successful, healthy and peaceful new academic year.

Prof. Dr Muhittin KAPANŞAHİN
