HISTORY OF FACULTY

While faculty was previously serving under the roof of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, it was unanimously decided at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Faculty Board meeting dated 28 January 2010 and numbered 15-164 that it would be appropriate to be separately organised as the ‘Faculty of Letters’ in order to carry out education and scientific studies in a healthier way. It was established as an independent faculty with the Decree of the Council of Ministers dated 28.07.2010 and numbered 2010/777 published in the Official Gazette dated 22.08.2010 and numbered 27680. Prof. Dr. Muhittin KAPANŞAHİN, who was appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Letters on 13.09.2023, is still in his duty.

The duration of education in faculty is four years. In addition to the four years, only the students of the Department of Western Languages and Literatures enrolled in faculty study a compulsory English preparatory class in the first year.
